What Moving Into Charleston PHP Actually Looks Like
Most clients begin in our Partial Hospitalization Program rather than IOP, because PHP provides the structure and clinical contact hours needed to stabilize early in treatment — IOP becomes appropriate once that stabilization has happened. Assessment and intake typically move quickly: an ASAM-based clinical assessment is completed up front, and our recovery management team gets involved from day one to coordinate the practical pieces — transportation to Charleston and placement into CARR-certified sober living, arranged before or alongside the first days of programming.
The first week generally centers on individual sessions with the clinical team, group therapy, and an initial psychiatric evaluation with our board-certified PMHNP where medication needs are assessed. Family involvement typically begins early as well, not as an afterthought later in treatment. As stability builds, clients step down from PHP into IOP — a transition that, in practice, often plays out over several weeks, with a period of PHP followed by a longer stretch of IOP as clinical intensity decreases.
Treatment doesn’t end at discharge. Clients moving out of IOP typically continue in sober living for a period afterward while attending outpatient groups, and stay connected through aftercare and alumni contact — continued touchpoints that reflect what we’ve seen support longer-term recovery.
